Erickson, Rev. Robert L. Passed away at the Covenant Living Care and Rehabilitation center on Tuesday, September 8th after a brief time under Hospice care. We rejoice in his going home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Robert was born on February 12th, 1924 in Stambaugh, Michigan to Fritz and Jennie Erickson. He graduated from High School in Stambaugh and went on to receive an Associates Degree from North Park Jr College in Chicago, IL and a BA from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL. Furthermore he went on to receive a Master of Divinity degree from North Park Theological Seminary in 1946. He married Violet Erickson in 1947 and to them were born two boys, Timothy and Peter. Robert served at Evangelical Covenant churches in Chicago Heights, IL, Manchester, NH serving as a pastor and chaplain at the veterans Hospital, Iron Mountain, MI, and Glen Ellyn, IL. A gifted preacher and administrator, he also served as a Superintendent of the Central Conference and also the East Coast Conferences of the Evangelical Covenant Church. In addition he served as Director of Development at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL; as director of Development at the Princeton Children's Home in Princeton, IL, and Director of Development of the Galter Life Center of Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL. He also served as interim pastor at various Covenant Churches. He retired in 1989 to enjoy winters in Bradenton, FL and summers at their family cottage on Hagerman Lake in the upper penninsula of Michigan. Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing, traveling with his wife, Violet, and his life at the lake. He was a gifted musician making a recording of his favorite hymns with his two brothers. He sang in the Covenant Minister's Chorus, directed the choir at Covenant Living where they lived and leading the men's Saturday morning prayer breakfasts for more than 10 years. He is survived by his wife, Violet, his partner for 73 years; two sons, Timothy of Iron River, MI and Peter (Carol) of Apple Valley. He has three granddaughters, Brittany (Travis) Ahlberg, Krysta (Josh) Meisberger and Joanna (Ben) Fullen. They also have 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Irving Erickson and Eldred Erickson. We was a member of Grace Covenant Church in Iron River, MI, the church of his upbringing. Grace and peace to his memory. Memorials may be made out to Covenant Point Bible Camp, Iron River, MI or Covenant Living Benevolence, Covenant Living of Golden Valley, MN.
